    Outdoor Education | Teen Adventure Trips | Summer Camp

    Employment opportunities are available, before and after the summer season in supporting outdoor education, team-building, and weekend programs. The summer camp season runs June 18 – August 26.

    Outdoor Education


    Outdoor Educator
    Job Description: Facilitate classes in adventure education, team building, high ropes, climbing tower, environmental education, orienteering, sailing and outdoor recreation to school, adult, and retreat groups.

    Qualifications: Desire to work outside with all age groups; interest, degree, or experience in education, science, or outdoor recreation; impeccable references; flexibility, willingness to learn, fun-loving; certifications in Red Cross First Aid or Wilderness First Aid and CPR preferred, Lifeguarding a plus.

    Salary and Benefits:$6.75 /hr; 40 hr/week; private or semi-private housing; meals provided with vegetarian options, free internet access, voice mail, training in leading outdoor education classes, high ropes, and climbing tower; endless miles of hiking trails from the property. Additional benefits including health and dental insurance and paid sick time for six- and seven-month employees (mid May to November 1 and late March to November 1) who commit to working the summer season, Two- to three-month positions and internships are also available.

    Teen Adventure Trips


    Adventure Trip Leader
    Job Description: Chingachgook offers a variety of adventure trips that provide kids, aged 11 – 17, the opportunity to backpack, rock climb, kayak, canoe, white-water raft, sail, and bicycle in the Adirondacks, New England, and the southeast. Adventure trip leaders help plan, coordinate and facilitate multiple one- to four-week trips.

    Qualifications: Previous experience leading or teaching in the outdoors. Must have camping and group facilitation skills and experience working with teens. Must have valid driver's license; demonstrated sound judgment; excellent human relation, organizational, and communication skills. We require certifications in Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard (certification training available at camp before position start).

    Salary: $2,000 - $2,6000, depending on experience

    Summer Camp



    All counselors must hold current certifications in both lifeguarding and wilderness first aid. Chingachgook offers both trainings prior to start of summer.

    Counseling Staff

    Unit Director
    Supervise, teach, guide, and evaluate counselors, assistant counselors, CITs, and campers. Assist with all phases of camp program. Must be experienced in camp programming and supervision; and organized, dependable, and flexible. $2,300 – $3,000

    CIT Director
    Two groups of counselors-in-training come to camp for four weeks each. CITs are graduate campers who are ready for additional responsibilities through additional training. There are two CIT directors, one for the boys and one for the girls. Assist with all phases of camp program. Must be experienced in camp programming and supervision, as well as organized, dependable, and flexible. $2,300 – $3,000

    Counselor
    Oversee assigned campers; provide leadership to all phases of camp program including teaching skill classes and leading three-day hikes. Must be experienced in teaching, leading children, and experienced and/or strong interest in hiking and canoeing. Must be 18 years old. $1,300 – $2,000

    Assistant Counselor
    Assist counselors in overseeing assigned campers, assist with all phases of camp program: classes, three-day hikes, special events and trail maintenance, campsite construction, and/or habitat improvement projects. $800 – $1,200

    Day Camp Director
    Supervise, teach, guide, and evaluate counselors, assistant counselors, and campers. Assist with all phases of camp program. Must be experienced in camp programming and supervision as well as organized, dependable, and flexible. Campers are 5 - 10 years old. Childhood care experience is preferred. $2,300 – $3,000

    Day Camp Counselor
    Care for children 5 - 10 years old. Ensure their safety and well-being while engaging them in camp activities tailored to their age. Must have experience in early childhood care. $1,750 – $2,500

    Day Camp Assistant Counselorr
    Help take care of children 5 - 10 years old. Ensure their safety and welfare under the guidance of day camp counselors. $800 – $1,200

    Program Staff


    Hikes Coordinator
    Each two-week session all campers and counseling staff participate in three-day wilderness excursions, including backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, or mountain biking. The hike coordinator oversees the training of hike leaders and planning of each trip including destination selection, transportation coordination and food/gear acquisition. Must be highly competent in leading trips, as well as flexible, organized, and eager to work with a diverse population. $3,000 – $4,500

    Program Specialist Counselor
    Oversee assigned campers. Provide leadership to all phases of Camp program including skill classes and leading three-day hikes. Oversee the development, training, and supervision of a specific program area for the duration of the summer. Must be experienced in that program area as well as in teaching, leading children, and experienced or strong interest in hiking and canoeing. All counselors must have both lifeguarding and wilderness first aid. Chingachgook offers both trainings prior to start of summer. Must be at least 18 years old. $1,350 – $2,000

    Special Events Director
    Plan, organize, and facilitate special events and evening programs; direct, supervise, and evaluate program staff; support the program director in all aspects of camp programming. Must be personable,organized, and experienced in camp programming and group facilitation. $2,000 – $2,500

    Skill Class Director
    Oversee the skill class scheduling of campers and staff. Direct, supervise, and evaluate program staff. Oversee all skill classes and their curricula and maintain all equipment and class activity areas. Work closely with and assist the program director with all aspects of camp programming. Address parent and camper needs before their arrival at Camp. Must be responsible, organized, flexible, and dependable. $2,000 – $2,500

    Headquarters Manager
    Organize and maintain Camp headquarters, including mail, care packages, phones, lost and found, filing, announcements, and supervising headquarters staff. Coordinate staff events on and off camp property. Assist the program office. Must be responsible, dependable, organized, and personable. $1,750 – $2,000

    Program Staff
    Support special events coordinator: Help plan and organize special events, manage all equipment, assist with facilitating events. Support skill class director: Help schedule campers and staff into their skill classes, assist all skill classes and their curricula, and help maintain all equipment. Must be enthusiastic and able to follow directions. $1,000 – $2,500

    Art Program Specialist
    Supervise the art specialty area. Train staff; teach and supervise specialty classes throughout the day. Contribute to the overall program team in delivering evening programs and skill classes. Must be flexible, organized, and eager to work with a diversity of people. Must have previous experience in management and/or specialty area. $2,000 – $2,500

    Photography Program Specialist
    Supervise the photo specialty area. Train staff; teach and supervise specialty classes throughout the day. Contribute to the overall program team in delivering evening programs and skill classes. Must have experience in photography. Please submit portfolio. $2,000 - $2,500

    Yearbook Photographer
    Produce high-quality unit photos for each camper group; shoot approximately 750 candids per session, covering different age groups and activities. Must reliably meet deadlines, pay close attention to detail, and be creative, flexible, and enthusiastic. Please submit portfolio with your application. $2,000 – $2,500

    Shooting Sports Specialist
    Supervise shooting sports area. Train staff; teach and supervise riflery and archery classes throughout the day. Contribute to the overall program team in delivering evening programs and skill classes. Must be flexible, organized, and eager to work with a diversity of people. Must have previous management and certifications in the prospective field. $1,000 – $2,500

    Sports Specialist
    Supervise the sports specialty areas of camp including tennis, soccer, and junior sports zone activities. Assist the skill class director in facilitating organized recreation periods. Train staff; teach and supervise sports classes throughout the day. Must be flexible, organized, and eager to work with a diverse population. Contribute to the overall program team in delivering evening programs and skill classes. Must have previous management and certifications in the prospective field. $2,000 – $2,500

    Climbing Specialist
    Supervise high-ropes and rock-climbing program. Train staff; teach and supervise high-ropes classes. Must be flexible, organized, eager to work with diverse campers and staff and have previous climbing experience; certification preferred. Position contributes to the program team in delivering evening programs and skill classes. $2,000 – $2,500

    Nature and Outdoor Living Skills Specialist
    Supervise nature and outdoor living skills (OLS) program. Train staff and teach and supervise nature, OLS, and outdoor cooking classes. Must be flexible, organized, and eager to work with a diverse population and have previous outdoor teaching experience, training and /or certification. Contribute to the overall program team in delivering evening programs and skill classes. $2,000 – $2,500

    Waterfront


    Waterfront Director
    Supervise all waterfront operations including swimming, sailing, canoeing, boating, waterskiing, and special programs. Provide leadership and supervision to a team of waterfront staff and counselor lifeguards. Maintain high level of safety. Adhere to DoH and ACA guidelines and proactively manage all risk at the waterfront. Familiar with motorboat operation and be able to address routine waterfront maintenance. Must have at least three season's experience working on a waterfront or at a pool. Must be at least 21 years old and certified in WSI and lifeguarding. $4,000 – $5,000

    Sailing Director
    Supervise the sailing program and assist the waterfront director in managing all sailboats. Train and supervise sailing instructors for the summer sailing program. Support other waterfront staff. $3,000 – $4,000

    Aquatics Director
    Teach, train, and supervise campers and staff in swimming and safety. Coordinate lifeguards during free swims and special events. Support other waterfront staff. Must be 21 years old and certified in WSI and Lifeguarding. $2,500 – $3,000

    Boating Specialist
    Supervise canoeing, rowing, and boat-related hikes. Lifeguard certification is required and ability to drive a motorboat is preferred. $2,000 – $2,500

    Waterfront Staff
    Support waterfront staff and child care staff in all phases of program. Must be certified lifeguard experienced in boating and teaching. $1,750 – $2,000

    Medical Staff

    Medical Director
    Supervise and schedule medical staff, ensure adherence to regulations of NYS Dept of Health, American Camp Association, and YMCA regulations. Oversee health and safety of campers and staff; manage routine care; respond to emergencies; dispense medications. Must be New York State Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or EMT. $4,000 – $6,000

    Nurse/EMT
    Oversee health and safety of campers and staff. Manage routine care; respond to emergencies. Operate infirmary; dispense medications. Must be New York State Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or EMT. $ per diem – $5,000

    Food Service

    Head Chef
    Oversee preparation and presentation of all meals and snacks. Ensure balanced, nutritious meals, including a vegetarian option. Train, schedule and supervise cooks. Maintain sanitation of kitchen and dining hall. Must be experienced in managing kitchen for food service operation. $ hourly depending on experience.

    Cook
    Prepare, serve meals and snacks; maintain kitchen cleanliness, sanitation. Must be experienced in food service operations. $ hourly depending on experience.

    Steward
    Oversee mealtime and cleanup operations. Train, schedule, and supervise kitchen crew. Maintain clean dining hall. Must be experienced in food service operations. $ hourly depending on experience.

    Cook's Assistant
    Help cook prepare and serve meals and snacks; maintain clean kitchen. Must be enthusiastic, demonstrate positive attitude, and be a team player. $ hourly depending on experience.

    Kitchen Crew
    Operate dishwasher, wash pots and pans, clean dining hall and kitchen. Must be enthusiastic, demonstrate positive attitude, and be a team player. $ hourly depending on experience.

    Maintenance

    Maintenance Staff
    Assist property manager with upkeep of grounds, buildings, equipment. Must be responsible, hard-working, dependable, and experienced in carpentry, plumbing, and grounds-keeping. Must be 18 years old. $ hourly depending on experience.
