President's Message

See a Volunteer... Thank the Volunteer... They Keep Us Strong and Growing

Recently, I wrote a letter to our YMCA employees because I wanted to remind them how important volunteers are to our organization.

I’m certain they, and you as supporters of the YMCA, realize that our organization is lead by a group of dedicated volunteers. These 32 policy volunteers, the Capital District YMCA Board of Directors, are the decision making body for the organization. That means I actually have 32 bosses. People from all different professions and walks of life help lead and direct the future of our YMCA.

I often call upon many members of this group for their knowledge and expertise. The Board is supported by Branch Board of Man gers representing each of our facilities. Each local YMCA has a board of 30 volunteers. Again, these are representatives from the local community who give their time to help us run their particular YMCA facility and do good work for our local constituents.

Our directors along with many other volunteers help us raise annual support dollars to assist us in providing programs and service scholarships to over 32,000 people a year.

Our volunteers over the years have helped us raise millions of dollars to establish and build new YMCAs that provide incredible and needed services for children, families, and the greater community. We have volunteers who help us in programs as well, serving as coaches, mentors, and even helping us with various projects in and around our branches.

It’s inspiring to have so many volunteers committed to helping the YMCA move forward. And, as we approach the Reach Out For Youth Annual Support Campaign effort, it’s important that our appreciation and thanks to our boards and contributors be expressed daily.

So, I asked our employees, and I’ll be doing it myself, the next time we see a volunteer of the YMCA, to take a second and say thank you. Without these wonderful people at our YMCA, we couldn’t do all the great things that we do.
