“Moving On” For Cancer Survivors at the YMCA

3/9/2011 10:40:50 AM

DELMAR, NY – The Capital District YMCA’s Bethlehem branch is now offering “Moving On”, a FREE 10-week exercise program designed for cancer patients and survivors. Funded in part through a grant from Pepsi, Moving On promotes the benefits of daily exercise for cancer survivors.

“Exercise is important for all of us,” explains Mary Ibbetson, the program’s instructor and cancer survivor. “For cancer patients and survivors, research shows exercise improves the quality of life, reduces side effects from treatments and reduces the risk of recurrence.”
In addition to teaching Moving On, Mary is a certified personal trainer who works solely with cancer patients and survivors. Mary is the founder of Team Survivor Albany and is the 2010 NENY Konen Make a Difference Award recipient.

Moving On meets once a week on Saturdays at 10:30am. Class size is limited. The program will run from March 19th to May 21st. Please contact Mark A. Thurman-Wellness Director at 518.869.3500 x1440, or email him at mthurman@cdymca.org.
